You put in the early mornings, the film sessions and the off-season work. A good feature story shows coaches, recruiters, sponsors and your own community who you are beyond the box score.

Getting that story told mostly comes down to knowing who takes pitches. Our editors checked every place below in October 2026 to confirm it accepts athlete stories, nominations or guest pitches, from feature outlets to podcasts and reporter-request services.

To see the kind of stories we run, read our profile of Malcolm Polu Jr. and his move to Fresno State or our look at the recruiting battle that starts before athletes reach campus.

The short version: Athletes can pitch their story to Seismic Sports Coverage through the form on our page, share a mental health story with The Mental Matchup from Morgan's Message, and get booked on podcasts like A Athletes Journey through Talks.co or PodMatch. Coaches can nominate softball players for NFCA/MaxPreps Players of the Week, and athletes with expertise can answer reporter requests on Qwoted or Source of Sources.

1. Athlete features and story programs: free places to pitch

Start with outlets that already publish athlete stories. Your local TV station and newspaper sports desk belong here too: most list a news-tip email or form on their contact page, and they want local angles like commitments, records and comebacks.

  • That’s us
Seismic Sports Coverage: We publish athlete profiles and features, along with recruiting, NIL, mindset and training coverage, for high school, college, club and pro athletes. Pitch your story with the form on this page; an editor reads every submission.
Pitch Seismic Sports Coverage with the form below ↓
  • The Mental Matchup (Morgan's Message): Takes written personal stories about mental health and athletics from athletes and the people who support them, shared on its podcast; free to submit, and no diagnosis or current roster spot is required.
  • NFCA/MaxPreps High School Players of the Week: Weekly national honors for high school softball players, nominated by NFCA member head coaches through the Coach's Box by Sunday evening; Fall 2026 awards are listed, and nominating requires NFCA membership.

2. Podcasts: get booked as a guest

Podcasts give you room to tell the whole story, not just the highlight. Guest platforms let you build one profile and get matched with hosts who are booking now.

  • A Athletes Journey: Former pro athlete Travis Reed interviews former, current and future athletes, with a focus on pro, college and overseas basketball; listed as booking guests on Talks.co with no appearance fee as of October 2026.
  • Talks.co: Free expert directory where podcast hosts and journalists find guests; build one profile, show interest in shows, and message once both sides match (free plan, with paid upgrades for more connections).
  • PodMatch: Matches guests with podcast hosts through a media one-sheet profile and an Explore page for searching shows; guest plans are paid monthly, with a money-back guarantee listed on its site.
  • PodcastGuests.com: Sends a free newsletter of podcasts looking for guests and runs a paid expert directory that podcasters search when booking.

3. Expert-source services: answer reporter requests

If you can speak to training, recovery, recruiting or NIL, these services send you requests from journalists who need a source. They fit pro athletes, coaches and athletes who run a business; if you have done NIL deals like the ones in our guide to local NIL money, you already have a useful angle.

  • Qwoted: Journalist-request platform where experts join a reporter database and pitch open requests; Basic is free with 2 pitches a month and Pro is $149 a month, as listed in October 2026.
  • Source of Sources: Free list from HARO founder Peter Shankman that emails journalist requests up to three times a day; reply directly when you fit, and keep replies on topic or you can be removed.

How to pitch so you actually get featured

Editors and hosts get a lot of pitches, so make yours easy to say yes to.

  • Lead with the moment. A commitment, a record, a comeback from injury or a team milestone gives an editor a reason to run the story now.
  • Send the facts editors check: full name, school or club, position, grad year, key stats with a source such as MaxPreps, and a link to your highlight film.
  • Include one or two clear, recent photos you have permission to share, and a parent or coach contact if the athlete is under 18.
  • Tell us what sets you apart off the field, such as how you train, what you study, a family story or work in your community.
  • Keep the first message to three or four sentences, with links instead of attachments.
  • Follow up once after a week or two. If you still hear nothing, pitch a different outlet with a fresh angle.
