Mater Dei Kicks Off 2021 Season in Top 10 Battle with Duncanville (TX)
What a way to kick off the 2021 fall football season. Mater Dei travels to Texas to take on the Duncanville Panthers. Both teams are ranked among the top ten high school football teams in the country. The amount of talent that will be on the field on Friday is absolutely amazing.
No less than 40 players among the two powerhouse programs hold FBS offers. Several 2022 prospects have already made their college decisions and are committed. Here’s a look at the top Mater Dei prospects in this Friday’s clash.
QB Elijah Brown
Brown is just the fourth freshman to ever start at quarterback for the Monarchs. He had a solid spring season completing 74-of-107 passes for 973 yards and 15 touchdowns. Brown threw just one interception and is the No. 4-ranked quarterback in the Class of 2024.
Brown (6-2, 190) is one of those 40 players in Friday’s game with at least one FBS offer. The Monarchs quarterback has received offers from Arizona, Utah, and Pittsburgh. Plenty more will come after his sophomore campaign.
WR C.J. Williams
According to many, Williams is the No. 1 wide receiver in the Class of 2022. He proved that in the shortened five-game spring season. With all of the weapons the Monarchs have on offense, Williams caught 16 passes this spring. Five of them went for touchdowns.
At 6-2 and 195 pounds, Williams has outstanding speed, great leaping ability, and works on his craft at being an elite receiver. He is a threat to score on every play. Williams recently committed to Notre Dame.
LB David Bailey
When healthy, there may not be a better linebacker in the state of California. Bailey (6-3, 230) is one of the best in the country. He has the ability to line up at the line of scrimmage and rush the passer as well as drop back in coverage and make plays downfield.
Bailey visited a number of schools over the summer and attended several camps as well. His ability is evident from the offers he has received so far – Alabama, Oklahoma, and USC are among many more.
RB Raleek Brown
Brown is easily one of the most explosive players in the country. As Mater Dei’s RB No. 1, Brown carried the ball 53 times in the spring season for 367 yards and five touchdowns.
Colleges across the country recognized how special Brown was despite being just 5-8 and 185 pounds. He has run 4.47 in the 40-yard dash and his speed was just one reason why he had offers from virtually every major Power 5 team in the country.
In the above tweet, Brown is seen pictured with Lincoln Riley, the head football coach at Oklahoma. Brown committed to the Sooners early.
DB Domani Jackson
The best prospect in Mater Dei’s Class of 2022 is probably Jackson. He is big for a cornerback at 6-2 and 185 pounds, but it is his speed that sets him apart from anyone in the country.
After the spring football season, Jackson tied the California state record in the 100-meter dash winning the event in 10.25 seconds. He is truly special and you can see that speed in this hand-timed 40-yard dash below. Yes, he ran under 4.3!
Jackson is taking his talents to USC where he announced his commitment earlier this summer.
LB Eoghan Kerry
A transfer from Centennial HS, Kerry played three games in the spring and displayed why he was one of the most sought after linebackers in the nation.
At 6-3 and 235 pounds, Kerry has 4.59 speed and a 36-inch vertical jump. He can run down plays from behind and cover down the field.
Kerry committed to Texas earlier in August.
Other Mater Dei Prospects
There are plenty of other outstanding prospects for the Monarchs including WR Cooper Barkate (6-2, 190) who holds offers from Arizona, Notre Dame, and Oregon among others.
B.J. Tolo is a 6-1, 290-pound offensive lineman who has started for Mater Dei since he was a freshman. He has offers from the likes of Oregon, Kansas, and Colorado State.
Class of 2022 DB Josh Hunter was the Trinity League Defensive Player of the Year in the spring. He is committed to San Diego State. His teammate, DB Cameron Sidney (5-11, 170), is committed to Cal.
